Greek Mythology Audio Lessons for Classrooms: Listening Access for Grades 6–12

Greek Mythology Audio Lessons for Classrooms: Listening Access for Grades 6–12

The Greek Myths Series Audio Lessons Bundle (12 Stories) offers Greek mythology audio lessons for classrooms that want stronger listening support in grades 6–12. Each episode runs about 10–15 minutes and follows the same sequence of myths as the Mini Readers and Readers Theater scripts, making it easy to plug into your existing unit.

These audio lessons are especially useful for students who missed a day, struggle with print-heavy materials, or simply learn better by listening. You can play them whole-class, assign them in a listening center, or use them for at-home reinforcement when families prefer audio over extra worksheets.

Standards Connection

The audio bundle supports:

  • Speaking & Listening standards (CCRA.SL.1, SL.2) as students interpret information presented orally and discuss key ideas.
  • Reading Literature standards (CCRA.R.2, R.3) when you pair audio with text and ask students to track theme and character over time.
  • Language standards (CCRA.L.4) when students encounter academic vocabulary repeatedly across episodes.

Lesson Flow with the Audio Lessons

  • Pre-listening – Review the title and characters, and ask students to predict what kind of problem or transformation might occur in this myth.
  • First listen – Play the episode straight through. Ask students to jot down three words or phrases that stood out.
  • Quick debrief – Turn and talk: “What surprised you?” “Which character had the hardest choice?”
  • Second listen (targeted) – Replay key sections while students complete a short organizer or jot notes about cause/effect, character motivation, or consequences.
  • Short written response – Have students answer one focused question using notes from the audio (for example, “What warning does this myth give its audience, and how do you know?”).
  • Optional text connection – Link the audio to the matching Mini Reader or Readers Theater script for a follow-up reading activity.

If you’d like a no-risk sample, you can start with the free Daedalus and Icarus audio lesson on Teachers Pay Teachers, then bring students back into your Shopify ecosystem with the matching Daedalus and Icarus Mini Reader or the full audio bundle once they’re hooked.

Optional Extension (Teacher-Created)

Not included in the product PDF.

  • Create simple “listening stations” around the room where small groups listen to different myths and then rotate, leaving behind sticky-note summaries at each station.
  • Have students script a short “interview” with a character after listening: one student plays a reporter, one plays the god, hero, or victim.
  • Ask students to sketch a quick storyboard of the myth while listening and then use it as a planning tool for a written summary.
  • Pair the audio with the relevant Readers Theater script so students listen first and then perform the same story, noticing what changes between formats.

For print and performance options, combine these episodes with the Greek Mythology Mini Readers Bundle and the Greek Mythology Readers Theater Scripts Bundle.
