  1. Joel and Amanda learn that an empresario brings families to settle Texas, and the class names the big idea of promises, rules, and land.
  2. In a government office, the class learns Mexico used settlement laws and land offers to attract settlers while keeping order.
  3. Stephen F. Austin explains he will continue Moses Austin’s contract and must balance families’ hopes with government rules.
  4. Austin pitches Texas to families near a river, while an Indigenous voice reminds everyone the land is already home to others.
  5. Martín de León shows another settlement plan and explains an empresario recruits families and plans farms, homes, and roads.
  6. Land is measured with stakes, and the class sees how lines can reduce fights for some people but disrupt homelands for others.
  7. A messenger brings new rules, and settlers, empresarios, and officials react to the tension between freedom and control.
  8. The settlement grows, trade begins, and the class sees both economic growth and rising pressure on land and resources.
  9. Back in class, students summarize the system using “Why, How, and What Changed” with voices from every perspective.
  10. The cast studies a crowded map and agrees the story must include families, planners, officials, and Indigenous communities.
