This U.S. History Differentiated Readers Theater script is based on Alexander Hamilton and His Duel (1780s-1804). It tells the story of Alexander Hamilton, an immigrant who becomes a key figure in early American history. Starting as a young man from the Caribbean, Hamilton moves to New York and joins the fight for independence. He becomes General George Washington's trusted aide during the Revolutionary War. After the war, Hamilton helps write the Federalist Papers to support the new Constitution and becomes the first Secretary of the Treasury. He creates financial policies and proposes a national bank to strengthen the economy. However, his political rival, Aaron Burr, feels wronged by Hamilton's actions and words. Their rivalry leads to a duel, where Hamilton is tragically killed. This story shows how Hamilton's contributions helped shape the new nation and highlights the dangers of political conflicts.
