Free Thanksgiving History Reader’s Theater | Grades 9–12 | 20 Speaking Roles
A school museum’s Thanksgiving exhibit is already printed when its editors discover unsupported quotations and a story frame that reduces Wampanoag history to one meal. They examine surviving English descriptions of 1621, archival silence, Wampanoag history before and after the gathering, diplomacy, historical memory, and historiography. The team learns that correcting individual claims cannot repair a narrative whose central framing is misleading. They redesign the exhibit to distinguish the historical event from the later national origin story.
Why teachers use this resource
Rebuild a flawed museum exhibit by distinguishing a historical event from later origin stories. Students practice purposeful oral reading, text-evidence discussions, and thoughtful historical interpretation.
