Free Thanksgiving History Reader’s Theater | Grades 3–5 | 6 Speaking Roles
Six students discover that their history exhibit claims to show the exact menu served during the 1621 harvest gathering. They examine what a surviving English account actually says, including five deer and fowl, and discover that a modern Thanksgiving meal cannot automatically be projected onto that event. The students learn to separate directly documented information from possibilities, later food traditions, and unknown details. Their exhibit becomes stronger when they replace unjustified certainty with carefully described evidence.
Why teachers use this resource
Separate documented foods from familiar modern Thanksgiving assumptions. Students practice purposeful oral reading, text-evidence discussions, and thoughtful historical interpretation.
