Script Summary:
Jonah is commanded by God to go to Nineveh to preach against its wickedness. Afraid, Jonah tries to flee by boarding a ship, but a fierce tempest arises. The sailors discover Jonah is the cause of the storm, and at Jonah’s urging, they throw him overboard. God appoints a great fish that swallows Jonah for three days. Jonah prays, repents, and God causes the fish to release him. Jonah then obeys, warning Nineveh of destruction. The people of Nineveh believe, fast, and turn from evil, so God spares them. Jonah grows angry because he wanted Nineveh punished, but God uses a plant and a worm to teach Jonah about divine compassion. The story shows that running from God is futile, and that God desires repentance, not destruction.
