A Grade 6 Minnesota lesson connecting the MIS Language School, Rondo and I-94, civil rights, public policy, discrimination, and community action.

Connect Minnesota’s World War II and Cold War-era history to civil rights and community change. Students study the Military Intelligence Service Language School, the Rondo neighborhood, the construction of I-94, displacement, discrimination, and organized efforts for greater equality.

Students compare military service and civic belonging with housing, transportation, and civil-rights policy at home. Rondo provides a concrete case for analyzing how public decisions can reshape a community and how residents preserve memory, organize, and demand change.

Part 9 of the 10-lesson Minnesota State History series.
