Ohio State History | The Ohio Country RT Script and Mini Readers | Grades 3-5

Teach the Ohio Country through a clear museum map-room investigation with a Grade 4 Reader’s Theater and two differentiated Mini Readers. Students rebuild a changing map from Native homelands and diplomacy through frontier conflict, treaty boundaries, settlement, forced removal, and continuing Tribal connections.

Students examine the Shawnee, Miami, Wyandot, Delaware or Lenape, Odawa or Ottawa, Seneca, and other distinct Nations; sovereignty and alliance; Fallen Timbers; the 1795 Treaty of Greenville; land cession; United States settlement; and later removal policies. The lesson centers Native governments and avoids treating many Nations as one group.
