This Pi Day Readers Theater Script explores the origins of this holiday. Students read an interactive narrative instead of reading a dry textbook or passively listen to a video or lecture. This activity will help develop listening and speaking skills as students practice expressive voice acting.
Script Summary:
This script explores the fascinating history of Pi, a number that measures circles and never ends. It begins in a modern classroom where a Teacher and Student introduce Pi’s importance. The story travels back in time to meet key figures: Archimedes, who used sand shapes in ancient Greece to estimate Pi; Zu Chongzhi, who refined it with sticks in China; Aryabhata, who calculated it under India’s stars; Madhav, who extended it with math tricks; and Johann Lambert, who proved Pi’s endless mystery. The script then jumps to 1988, when Larry Shaw starts Pi Day, made official in 2009, and to 2015, when Rajveer Meena memorizes 70,000 digits. It ends with a Pi Day party, showing how Pi helps with everyday things like pizza and bike wheels. The journey reveals Pi’s global legacy and fun celebrations.
