This U.S. History Differentiated Readers Theater script is based on Sybil Ludington and Molly Pitcher (1777). It tells the inspiring stories of two women who made significant contributions during the American Revolutionary War. Sixteen-year-old Sybil Ludington bravely rides through the night in New York to warn militia forces of an impending British attack, covering 40 miles and rallying soldiers to defend their homes. Meanwhile, Mary Ludwig Hays, known as Molly Pitcher, assists soldiers on the battlefield by bringing them water. During the Battle of Monmouth, when her husband collapses, she courageously takes his place at the cannon, continuing to fight under fire. These stories highlight the important roles that women and young people played in the war effort, demonstrating courage, determination, and the impact of stepping up when needed.
