The Golden Goose Readers Theater Script engages students in an interactive story instead of reading a third person narrative. This activity helps improves reading fluency, speed, accuracy, and expression while developing listening and speaking skills as students actively practice expressive voice acting.

Script Summary:

The Golden Goose tells about Dummling, the youngest of three brothers who is often mocked. While his older brothers fail to share with a Grey-Haired Man, Dummling kindly offers his simple cake and sour drink. In return, the old man guides Dummling to find a goose with golden feathers. Wherever Dummling goes with this goose, people who touch it become stuck, forming a funny parade. They march into a kingdom, making a serious Princess laugh at last. The King, wanting to test him, demands three tasks: to quench a giant’s thirst by emptying a whole cellar of wine, to let a starving man devour a mountain of bread, and to present a magic ship that sails on land and water. Dummling overcomes the King’s stubbornness with help from the old man and proves he is clever. In the end, Dummling marries the Princess and rules happily.
