This U.S. History Differentiated Readers Theater script is based on the story of The Second Continental Congress (1775). It tells the story of leaders from the thirteen American colonies meeting in Philadelphia to decide how to handle problems with Britain. They form the Continental Army and choose George Washington as its leader. Hoping to avoid war, they send the Olive Branch Petition to King George III, asking for peace and fair treatment. When the king rejects their petition and calls them rebels, the delegates realize they must unite and prepare for independence. This event sets the stage for the American Revolution.
